Linden Lemonade

It’s that time of year again, when the sweet scent of linden trees in bloom lingers in the streets of the cities. However, in the mountainous regions this scent is even more distinct. It is a well-known fact that eastern Bulgaria (specifically the eastern edge of the Balkan Mountains) is home to some of the last areas of wild linden trees on the European continent. Their blossoms are extremely beneficial to the organism, as they are far from the city”s asphalted streets full of a variety of pollutants. They are also used to make Balkan Herbs’ linden tea.

Here’s what the tea is beneficial for:
– it helps the digestive system to function well;
– it relieves anxiety, hyperactivity and insomnia;
– it is used for nervous palpitations and high blood pressure;
– it reduces nasal congestion and relieves cough and irritated throat.
– it helps with morning sickness and seasickness;
– it has a detoxifying effect;
– it can even ease painful menstruation.

Hand on heart we can recommend the consumption of the tea as a cooling drink as well. Prepare it according to your individual preferences, cool it with a few ice cubes and enjoy its freshness.

And why not even a homemade lemonade from lime to strengthen the body, providing it with the necessary vitamins, quench thirst on hot summer days and calm the nervous system? In the following lines we will share our short guidelines for its brewing.

You need:
2-3 handfuls of lightly dried linden blossom
3 tablespoons of honey
1 medium sized lemon
3-3.5 litres of water (boiled and cooled beforehand)
leaves of other herbs (mint or lemon balm) of choice Prepare as follows:
Add the pre-dried linden blossom in a shaded place in a container (it is recommended to use a jar) with a capacity of 3.5 litres. Add the honey and the sliced lemon (with the zest). Stir the ingredients and pour over the boiled and cooled water. Stir to dissolve the honey and cover with a cloth. Leave the container in the sun for at least 8 hours – the longer the drink enjoys the sun’s rays, the more intense its flavour and aroma will be. Then strain the liquid and consume within 24 hours. Depending on taste preferences, you can also add different herbs to the refreshing drink.
